Does Ignorance Save?

By Ben LaCorte

I’d like to believe you, what about all those people in the un-reached areas of the world?  What about them?

As a Christian, are you ever asked how someone could be condemned just because they live in a part of the world where Christ was never preached?  That’s unfair, they say?  How can such a cruel God be real?

Here’s the answer.  The Bible says that God is love, and not willing that ANY should perish.  But He’s also a perfect judge.  No one is punished because someone else didn’t go to that remote area to deliver the Gospel.  THAT would be unfair, since it places their destiny in the hands of another imperfect person.

People in remote areas are condemned not because they didn’t hear about Christ, but because they rejected the truth of God that was plainly revealed.  The Bible says that God’s divine nature has been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.   Romans 1

If your friend is honest, they’ll admit that they continually fall short of their OWN moral standard, and far short of God’s perfect standard.

God is not cruel because He doesn’t save all of us.  We deserve death. He’s awesomely merciful and gracious because He’s willing to save Any of us.

So the next time your friend asks – how can people be condemned who’ve never heard the Gospel?  Tell them that God wanted so much for them to hear it, that He sent you.
