Guilty!

By Ben LaCorte, Creation Tours

Your Honor, my client pleads … guilty!

Guilty! That’s the verdict for every human since the fall beginning of time.  But your non-believing friend asks you to explain this thing called forgiveness.  And who is this Jesus?  Why did he come, and what did he do that was so special.

You explain it by comparing it to a trial. The judge enters.  All rise.  You feel your heart pound because you’ve confessed and you know the penalty. There’s no jury, no witnesses. There’s only you, your attorney and the judge.  Your Advocate stands beside you as the Judge announces the verdict. Guilty as charged. Knowing the penalty is death, you fall to your knees, you beg for mercy as the footsteps of the bailiff come closer.  You hear the shackles close.  And you look up, for it is not your wrists, but those of your attorney that are now bound by your crime.  A nod passes between your attorney and the judge and he’s lead away.  You run to the judge, “Your honor, I know I’m guilty.  Why should I live?”

“The crime you committed is against me explains the Judge. But your attorney died in your place, He paid the penalty for your crime.”  But who is He that you should accept His life for mine?  “Your attorney, says the Judge, is my Son”

The Bible tells us that Christ died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God” 1 Peter 3:18  –  It also says that we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
