Is The Absolutely True?

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with your dental hygienist after she
started working on you?
One day I’m getting my teeth cleaned. While being prepped, I ask the hygienist “so
what church do you go to?” Just then she shoves what feels like a garden hoe in my
mouth and says “oh I stopped going to church. I finally came to the realization that
there’s no such thing as absolute truth.” I nearly swallowed that little mirror. With
the most intelligible sound I could make, I asked “Is that absolutely true?”
People say the craziest things. Most are not even aware when they say something
totally contradictory. Recently the head of a popular chicken restaurant expressed
his personal belief in traditional marriage. No problem. But some politicians went
ballistic. One mayor even made the statement that the restaurant chain did not
belong in his city. You see, they were an open city, a city at the forefront of
inclusion.” Did you catch that? He wanted to exclude them because his city prided
itself on being – inclusive!
We’re the church. We have to be wise as serpents. Our ears should perk up and
twitch when we hear such self refuting and illogical statements. But as gently as a
dove, point them to the source of all logic, the logos Himself. Jesus Christ.
